Check out our photos of the James J. Hill Days activities! The Fire Department defeated the Police Department 28-12 for the Anchor Bank Cup. This annual softball game celebrates the friendly rivalry between Police & Fire, and is great entertainment for the whole family.

Also note the photos from the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition dunk tank that was part of the celebrated James J. Hill Days on September 10 & 11, 2011. Guest dunkees included; Kevin Klapprich, Mike Risvold, Long Lake Mayor Tim Holtman, Wayzata Community Foundation Director Bill Nelson, Andrew Mullin, Andrew Cullen, and others.

Night to Unite photos

The Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition was happy again this year to put on the Night to Unite program on August 2nd.

The days activities were filled with opportunities for residents and business owners alike to attend lunch for a special presentation by Wayzata Police Chief Mike Risvold.

Longtime resident and business owner Gordy Engel was presented the Jim Fish award by Board member Mark Scheidhauer.

Later in the day, Wayzata Police, Fire, City staff, elected officials, and McGruff (Crime Coalition Mascot) visited two-dozen neighborhood parties throughout Wayzata and Long Lake. It is always a great way to get out, meet and visit with your neighbors.

Night 2 Unite Scheduled for August 2nd, 2011

Minnesota’s Night to Unite is scheduled for next Tuesday, August 2nd. The Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition’s (WCPC) Night to Unite luncheon at the Wayzata Country Club kicks off the day at 12:00 noon. The public is invited and it is always a great, well attended event. The WCPC will present the annual Jim Fish Award for crime prevention. Chief Mike Risvold will speak about some of the more interesting and sometimes bizarre cases that the department has worked on in the last year. The cost is $20 and reservations can be made by contacting the Wayzata Chamber of Commerce at 952-473-9595. Because the country club is closed on Monday, reservations need to be made to the Chamber office by noon on Friday, July 29th.

On Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM, local police officers, firefighters, elected officials, city staff, and McGruff will make neighborhood visits throughout Wayzata and to several parks in Long Lake. Neighborhood block captains in Wayzata have received schedules for estimated times of the visits. The stops in Long Lake include three parks – Harden Park at 6:20 – Dexter Park at 6:55 – Holbrook Park at 7:20. This is a great opportunity to ask questions of your police, fire, city staff and elected officials. Most of all, it’s a great time to connect with your neighbors as a reminder to look out for one another. We look forward to seeing everyone next Tuesday for Night to Unite!!!

Crime Prevention picnic a hit

The Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition's 2nd annual Community Picnic was a hit last night as about 70 neighbors met at the Wayzata Depot. Hot dogs, root beer floats, chips and water were served to the community by the board members of the WCPC.

The Mound K9 unit gave a demonstration of their capabilities of stopping a suspect, and the Wayzata Fire Department showed how they utilize their rescue and fire fighting boat.

The highlight of the evening came as members of the Lake Minnetonka SWAT team set off a flash that showed how disorienting the tool can be when entering a building.

McGruff the Crime Dog and the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition invite you to the community wide 2011 Crime Prevention picnic!

The event is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at the Wayzata Depot. Hot dogs, chips, and root beer floats will be served. In addition to dinner, a short program will include a K9 officer demonstration, members of the local SWAT team, a rescue boat demonstration by the Wayzata Fire Department, and remarks from Wayzata Police Chief Mike Risvold.

The 2011 Crime Prevention Picnic is free and open to the public, and donations to the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition will be accepted.

Wayzata Neighborhood Block Captains dinner and training

Dear Block Captains,

We are excited about the annual Wayzata Neighborhood Block Captains dinner and training coming up in April. Please join the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition and fellow Block Captains on April 18th from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the Anchor Bank Training Center on the 3rd floor. Gina and her wonderful staff from the Wayzata Bar & Grill will be providing dinner. Take a look at the attached flier for more information on our annual meeting.

In the past you have received notifications from Robin Lindquist concerning events such as this. Robin volunteered many, many hours during her time with the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition. She retired from the board at the end of last year and will be greatly missed. We are very thankful for all that she accomplished! My name is Max Windmiller and I am going to do my best to pick up where Robin left off. I am a Wayzata resident (Ridgeview Drive), second year board member and local business owner. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Block Captain meeting.

The first annual 2010 Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition Picnic was held on June 3, 2010. WCPC, residents and block captains gathered to review the Email Alert communication system the Wayzata Police Department has put in place.

Additionally, the Board of Directors gave the "We have a friend in you" award to Paul and Helen Klapprich for hosting the Night 2 Unit neighborhood block gathering since 1982. Furthermore, there was a SWAT team demonstration as well as a K9 unit

The Officers explained their involvement with the Lake Minnetonka SWAT team and informed those present about equipment used during some of their recent calls. Thank you to all who participated. Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course helps Wayzata "Get Ready"

"Anytime. Anywhere. In an instant an emergency can change a life. Your life. Are you prepared?" This is the theme for the American Red Cross in working with cities to help them: Get Ready. The WCPC helped bring the national Babysitter's Training certification course to Wayzata last Saturday with 24 students being trained on first aid, safety, leadership, and care for infants and children. Offering a class like this helps our community to get involved in learning how to save lives. Wayzata Fire Department Training Officer Troy Hoefker, center, assisted us in training students in the American Heart Association HeartSaver AED program. Participants included WCPC Board members and city officials and they were taught the new standards in CPR. We will be scheduling additional classes to be taught to classes of eight when more applicants are received. Since 2007, Wayzata Police Chief Mike Risvold has e-mailed Crime Alerts to citizens and businesses wishing to be notified about criminal activities within our community and asking everyone to keep an eye open for suspicious behavior within their neighborhood.

Currently we have 400 Crime Alert subscribers. Those interested in being added to Chief Risvold's e-mail Alerts may call the Police Department at 952-404-5340 or e-mail your request to: wayzatapd@wayzata.org .

Your e-mail address is protected and used solely for Crime Alerts. Notices will only come from the Wayzata Police Department. This is a partnership with the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition and intended to help keep Wayzata safe!

Join the Business Watch Support Group

Dear Friend/Wayzata Business Leader,

During the past year, we have had the pleasure of serving the citizens of Wayzata as members of the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition. In addition, we have been honored to work with a business community that is committed to our mission of crime prevention!

Much of our success has been centered around a "model" that focuses on the police and citizens working together... "watching out for one another" to help reduce and prevent crime! The neighborhoods have become very organized through their Neighborhood Watch Group, which is spear-headed by many committed Block Captains throughout Wayzata.

This success in the neighborhoods has spawned an effort by the business community to do the same. The Crime Coalition started a "Business Watch Support Group" which mirrors some of the same goals of the neighborhoods. We are currently sending out crime alerts with the Business Watch program-which is an email notification system designed to keep business owners informed about emergencies, crime trends, and other important city information. Enrollees will be notified by priority email when there is police information that may relate to them. This new services is free and will be used for official police business only. To become a member, simply provide your email address to the Wayzata Police Department by emailing sbobzien@wayzata.org, or by calling 952-404-5340.

According to Wayzata Police Chief Mike Risvold, WCPC fund raising efforts for 2009 will go towards, "the continuing operation of the organization, and a $2500 need for SWAT gear--a tactical vest and weapon accessories (scope/sights)."

In addition, we will annually offer "Business Watch Support" decals to be displayed prominently in your business. You involvement/membership in this effort is greatly appreciated! We are asking businesses to consider an annual donation in one of the following categories:

One employee: $50.00
Two or more employees: $100

Checks can be made out to the Wayzata Crime Prevention Coalition and sent in the enclosed envelope. Thank you for your support over the years... and thank you for your partnership with the Business Watch Support Group!
